Reporting Phishing Scams

If you receive a phishing scam via email you can contribute to solving the problem by bringing it to the attention of the institutions involved, even if you do not have a relationship with them. Generally they will:

  • Work to shut down web sites participating in phishing scams;

  • Work with police and other authorities to locate and prosecute offenders; and

  • Work with antivirus and security vendors.

Since phishing is considered to be a concerted effort by criminals (rather than harmless hacking by amateurs), it is important that every effort be made to stop it.
