Searching the Internet: Internet Search Engines

There are millions of sites on the Internet and more being added every day. This often makes it difficult to find the information you need, and to find it without having to search for a long time

A search engine is a tool that enables you to locate information on the Internet, by entering keywords or phases.

It's similar to using a card catalogue in a library. There is lots of great and useful information in a library, but it's physically impossible to examine all the books personally. Search engines help you sift through all those webpages to find the specific information you need

Simply type one or more search terms (the words or phrase that best describe the information you want to find) into the search box and hit the 'Enter' key. In response, the search engine produces a results page: a list of web pages related to your search terms, with the most relevant page appearing first, then the next, and so on.
