Locking Windows

Windows NT 4.0/2000 and above allow the workstation to be “locked”. This keeps all your programs running but denies access to the console unless the original user's password is entered. This allows a degree of privacy if you are leaving your computer unattended but do not wish to close all your programs and log out completely.

To lock the workstation:

  1. Press Ctrl-Alt-Del.

  2. Click Lock Workstation.

In Windows XP and above, a faster method is to press Windows Key-L (ÿ-L).

To unlock the workstation:

  1. Press Ctrl-Alt-Del.

  2. Enter your password.
