Powerware LanSafe Memory Leak
Powerware LanSafe leaks memory, eventually consuming all of the available RAM and paging file, and rendering a system inoperable.
The module in question is C:\Program Files\Powerware\LanSafe\Bin\LSTrayAgent.exe which leaks 4Kb memory approximately every 10-11 seconds (roughly 1Mb every 45 minutes). This has been observed for the 5.x series and 126.96.36.199. LSTrayAgent.exe is present in versions from 188.8.131.52, but not included in earlier 5.x versions such as 184.108.40.206 and 220.127.116.11.
To resolve, use one of the following methods:
- Upgrade LanSafe to 18.104.22.168 or better. (NB. LanSafe 22.214.171.124 also resolves a problem detecting USB devices under 64-bit Windows Vista/2008.)
- Use Sysinternals' Autoruns to disable (or remove entirely) the automatic execution of LSTrayAgent, which launches from HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run (under the Logon tab). Then reboot.
- Delete C:\Program Files\Powerware\LanSafe\Bin\LSTrayAgent.exe.
