Word/Excel Reports There Is No Printer Installed

When attempting to print from Microsoft Word 2010, it reports “Word cannot print. There is no printer installed”, or, from Excel 2010, “Excel cannot print. There is no printer installed”. However there are printers visible in the Printers applet under the Control Panel, Word and Excel report the printer is ready in the Print dialog and the printers are online and working.

This may occur if a printer driver caused a problem or if a print job was damaged. In this case, Word/Excel may disable the printers. To re-enable, close all Office programs, and see How to prevent Office 2010 from disabling printers.
