Disabling Internet Explorer Enhanced Security Configuration (IE ESC)

Windows Server operating systems by default cause Internet Explorer to operate in Internet Explorer Enhanced Security Configuration (IE ESC), which is more restrictive. If normal browser operation is required, this may be disabled as follows:

Windows 2003

  1. Click Start, choose Control Panel, then Add/Remove Programs.

  2. Click Add/Remove Windows Components.

  3. Uncheck Internet Explorer Enhanced Security Configuration (or use the Details option).

  4. Click Next.

Windows 2008/R2

  1. Click Start, choose Administrative Tools, then Server Manager.

If a User Account Control dialog box appears, click Continue.

  2. Under Security Information, click Configure IE ESC.

  3. Change the setting to Off for Administrators and/or Users as required.

  4. Click OK.

Windows 2012/R2

  1. Click Start, choose Administrative Tools, then Server Manager.

If a User Account Control dialog box appears, click Continue.

  2. Under Local Server, click next to IE Enhanced Security Configuration.

  3. Change the setting to Off for Administrators and/or Users as required.

  4. Click OK.
