Cannot Download from Secure Site

When downloading a file from a website with a secure connection, the browser may initiate the download and then fail with the message:

“Internet Explorer cannot download <filename> from <site>. Internet Explorer was not able to open this Internet site. The requested site is either unavailable or cannot be found. Please try again later.”

This has been observed with the following sites:

  • Telstra Online when attempting to download the PDF of a bill.

To resolve this:

  1. Open Internet Explorer.

  2. Choose Internet Options from the Tools menu.

  3. Click the Advanced tab.

  4. Scroll down to the end of the list of options and ensure that Do not save encrypted pages to disk is disabled under Security.

  5. Click OK.
