Cordless Phone Interferes with Wireless Networking

Many cordless phones operate on a radio frequency of 2.4GHz. However, Wireless LAN connections using 802.11b (the 11Mbps standard) and 802.11g (the 54Mbps standard), also operate on this frequency. Thus when the phone is used, you may experience poor throughput of the wireless LAN connection, or dropouts, or interference/static on the phone, or a combination of all.

Baby monitors and other radio devices may cause the same problem.

The solution is either:

• Change the channel on the cordless phone,

• Use a cordless phone which operates at a radio frequency of 5.8GHz, or

• Change the channel of the wireless access point.
