Small Business Server 2003 Backup Fails

The backup function of Small Business Server 2003 may appeared as Failed. Upon clicking the View Log option you see:

Launching NTBackup: ntbackup.exe backup "@C:\Program Files\Microsoft Windows Small Business Server\Backup\Small Business Backup Script.bks" /d "SBS Backup created on 07/31/2008 at 1:00 AM" /v:yes /r:no /rs:no /hc:off /m normal /j "Small Business Server Backup Job" /l:s /f "F:\Backup Files\Small Business Server Backup (02).bkf" /UM
NTBACKUP LOG FILE: C:\Documents and Settings\SBS Backup User\Local Settings\Application Data\Microsoft\Windows NT\NTBackup\data\backup08.log

=====================<BEGIN NTBACKUP LOG FILE>=====================
The saved selection file "Script.bks" cannot be found.
The saved selection file "Script.bks" cannot be found.
=======================<END NTBACKUP LOG FILE>=====================
NTBackup finished the backup with errors.

This may occur if a Recovery Storage Group has been added to Exchange 2003.

To resolve, use Notepad to open the backup script file referenced in the command-line from the log. For example, using the above you would open:

C:\Program Files\Microsoft Windows Small Business Server\Backup\Small Business Backup Script.bks

Remove the following line from this file:

JET SERVER\Microsoft Information Store\Recovery Storage Group\

(where “SERVER” is the name of the server.)
