Hewlett Packard BIOS Update Boot Problem

After a BIOS update, a Hewlett Packard desktop or laptop may fail to boot. Instead, it repeatedly beeps eight times and only shows a blank screen.

One way to recover the BIOS is to obtain a BIOS for the machine (either the latest or an earlier version), extract the package and copy the contents of the DOS Flash folder to a USB drive formatted with FAT or FAT32. Insert the USB drive into the machine.

When the machine powers on, it will detect the machine's failed BIOS and search for an appropriate BIN file to install. This takes about 30-60 seconds, then the display will show the BIOS being applied. This is called BootBlock Emergency Recovery Mode.
